If there is anything in common between Richard Nixon and Donald Trump, both of them are crooks ready to do anything to manipulate their power and benefit themselves? And both of them committed crimes.

51 years ago, the story of Watergate broke out, which shocked the whole nation. But the American people didn’t know much about Watergate. They only believed that it was a common burglary into the Democratic headquarters and paid little attention to it. You have to imagine that when Watergate broke out, the Vietnam War was still happening, which had reached its highest climax. So why did the American people bother with a burglary at Watergate? Two reporters from the Washington Post, Bob Woodward, and Carl Bernstein, were assigned to report on the Watergate burglary. When Woodward was at the court, a burglar told the judge that he worked for the CIA. And just like that, Woodward didn’t think that was just a regular burglary. Woodward and Bernstein began to research, interview people, find evidence, and risk their lives to dig deeper inside the story of Watergate, which led to the giant elephant in the room.

Richard Nixon, the man behind everything. Ultimately, when it became a national story, Watergate brought down Nixon, who resigned in 1974. Gerald Ford became the president after that. It was such a shame, though. When I visited Richard Nixon Library and Museum, walking through each room and reading each achievement that Nixon made as a senator, VP under Eisenhower, and president before Watergate, I must admit that this guy did an excellent job for the country.

I always say that each person who vowed to be the president of the United States of America always wanted the best for the country. Unfortunately, Nixon could not keep his legacy in shape. Right now, people only remember him as a crook and a criminal that made a big stain in U.S. history. They don’t remember what good things Nixon did in the past. You can see that the power of destruction is greater than the power of building things.

Many years later, another president walked the same path as Nixon. It is Donald Trump. He had no political experience. He had been known as a businessman, a reality TV star, and many others. But mostly, they are bad things. Trump is a man who doesn’t mind speaking his mind. Somehow that is the only thing that I like about him. However, he often went too far with what he said, which might have offended so many people. When he became the president, he was the topic everyone discussed. You read a newspaper, watched a news or a late-night show, or walked into a coffee shop or a group of people. You may have known something about Trump because they were talking about him. Now, Trump is indicted on 37 charges which shocked the whole nation. He is nothing different than Nixon. I will give you three reasons.

  1. They both denied what they were doing.

  2. They obstructed justice.

  3. They are crooks who abused their power.

You see, Ford pardoned Nixon. The chance that Trump can be pardoned is high—Nixon vs. Trump. I don’t know who is the worst, but they both destroyed their legacy, which cannot be saved. I don’t feel sorry for them but I hope justice can be done. Oh, you know what, they are both evil.
