Hi guys, I hope you have a good day. In today’s post, I would like to write about something that I haven’t written before. It is a collection of random things I watched and read on social media that I found ridiculous. It shows that in today’s society, people can be super sensitive over a small thing. What went wrong? I have no idea. When I watched those videos and read some articles, I sometimes saw myself in it. Perhaps, I am a sensitive person too. And I need to fix that. Since I don’t watch TikTok because I don’t like TikTok, I watched all those videos on Facebook and Instagram. But anyway, here are five ridiculous things I watched and read on social media.

Sensitive over “Friends”

Recently, I noticed there was an article interviewing Jennifer Aniston, who said in that article that she saw many young people nowadays feel offensive by some scenes in “Friends,” one of the most iconic TV shows of all time. I spent some time thinking about what she said. With me, Aniston is one of the best actresses ever. I love her comedy and her significant role as Rachel Green in Friends. I, personally love watching Friends which I rewatch every year in November. And I don’t feel anything offensive about that show. People think there should be at least one colored friend in that group, or some jokes about the LGBTQ+ community are not good, or body shaming. Things like that. But they don’t know that Friends has made a lot of impact on many people, including me. The show itself was beloved by many people who were fans and who were not. Nobody has any problem with the show, and yet, until today, people began to feel offended. I don’t understand that. Just leave that show alone.

The case of an $8,000 purple couch

Another example is the $8,000 purple couch Amanda Joy, a TikToker, found on the street of New York. For anyone who has not known what I am talking about, basically, Joy found this couch on the street and looked it up online. The couch was worth $8,000 from Roche Bobois, a furniture company. Since Joy posted the video of her and the couch on TikTok, she immediately became viral but in a negative way. When people found out the actual value of that couch, they turned to be jealous of her. Many people claimed that it was their couch. One person said she left it outside to let the rainwater wash the couch. Oh my God! Others went on TikTok and spread many absurd theories or conspiracies about the couch, like it was haunted, it had bed bug, or it was fake. All of those were fake. After Joy’s family helped her to bring the couch to her home and wash it, the couch was completely clean and safe to use. Roche Bobois also confirmed that the couch was authentic and even invited Joy to visit its showroom and gave her gifts. I feel happy for her and admired her that she didn’t mind all of those comments or videos attacking her. There was a saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” If you don’t appreciate it, you will lose it. It is so funny that people can go crazy because they cannot have that valuable couch.

How to define luxury?

Zoe Gabriel, a girl from Singapore with a TikTok channel named @zohtaco, was mocked after she called a Charles & Keith handbag worth $59,50 in the U.S. dollar “luxury.” It was a birthday gift from her father. Many TikTokers turned their attention to her. They made fun of Gabriel for making a mistake when calling that bag “luxury.” Gabriel made a video on TikTok to reply all of those nasty comments. She said her family was not rich and her father had to work really hard to afford that bag for her. For many people, the bag didn’t mean anything because they were rich and often bought from luxury brands. But with her, it was a luxury bag. How could they say about someone when they didn’t know what they have been through? That was so cruel. Finally, a good thing came to Gabriel. After learning her story, the creator of Charles & Keith invited Gabriel and her father to visit the company headquarters. Not only that, she officially became the brand ambassador. Who’s laughing now? For those who mocked her for calling the bag “luxury,” can you be like her? With brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, Balenciaga, Versace, Dior, or Valentino, their merchandise can be worth over $1,000. That is luxury! No doubt. Only the super rich can buy those. But I am the same as Zoe Gabriel. I don’t make a lot of money at the moment. I often buy clothes at Express, Uniqlo, Forever 21, or Calvin Klein. Of course, those brands, except Calvin Klein, cannot compare to those luxury brands. However, I think that if I know how to wear and turn them to be fashionable, they can be luxury in people’s eyes. People need to stop criticizing what others are wearing.

Face revealed

There are many famous people who never reveal their faces. Like Marshmallow, Alan Walker, Daft Punk, or Gorillaz. A famous YouTuber named Dream, who is well-known for his channel playing Minecraft and has over 31 million subscribers, revealed his face after so many years in a video. Before he revealed his face, he wore a smiley face mask. But after people knew his face, he had to delete that video and put the mask on again because people were attacking and making fun of Dream. I didn’t know anything about this guy or all the professional gamers in the world because I don’t play games. When I watched the video talking about how people attacked him, I knew a little bit about Dream. Eventually, this guy loves Minecraft and his videos are all about playing Minecraft. With a large number of subscribers, I can understand why people love watching his video because they are good quality. But when he decided to reveal his face, besides many people supporting him, others didn’t like his face. They made memes and compared his face to other people and things. That was so mean. They were body-shaming him. I looked at his face and found no problem with that. He looked handsome and kind. I had no idea why people could be so cruel like that. Whether it was a joke or they actually meant it, it was not cool. Dream had all the right to reveal his face. If you don’t like his face, don’t watch him anymore. Don’t spit out all those nasty things to him! He is a human, after all.

Sometimes beers can be sensitive

Beer is the most popular drink in the world. People can drink beer at every party. As long as the beer is good tasting, people can keep enjoying it. Especially in a hot summer day, beer is the best choice. Recently, Bud Light, a very popular beer brand, is being boycotted by anti-trans individuals and American conservatives after featuring Dylan Mulvaney, a trans woman, in its advertisement. Surprise? Not really. Many conservatives are so sensitive about trans people. They made a bunch of laws banning transgenders. It seems like they never treat transgenders as a human. It must be like that. Bud Light didn’t do anything wrong, and Mulvaney either. She didn’t commit any crime or did bad things. She just simply did a commercial for Bud Light. People went over the internet to boycott Bud Light for featuring a trans person. Here is the thing. Why don’t they shut the hell up? If they don’t want to drink, buy another beer. Let people want to drink Bud Light, drink Bud Light. Why so serious? In fact, I hate to say this, but those anti-trans are a bunch of idiots. They fought over a beer. Meanwhile, gun brands produce weapons that kill many people every day, none of those anti-trans or conservatives do the boycott. Double standard. I love Bud Light and will continue to drink this brand because they didn’t do anything wrong. Let the beer be the beer!

What do you think about those five cases above? Pretty ridiculous, isn’t it? It is like I am watching America’s Funniest Home Videos. I laughed every single moment. But it contained a touch of bitterness inside it too. People nowadays are too sensitive.
