Carlson and Lemon: Double Kill In One Morning

Today, we received two shocking news. Tucker Carlson, the famous conservative Fox News anchor at 8pm his prime time show, and Don Lemon, the anchor from CNN on the CNN This Morning show, were fired by their companies one morning. The news shocked and surprised many people.

In the statement released by Fox News, they said that the company and Carlson have agreed to “part ways,” and they thanked him for his contribution to Fox News. Carlson’s last show was on Friday, April 24, and in the show, he didn’t say anything about ending it or no sign of ending. Tucker Carlson Tonight was on Fox News from 2016 to 2023, which gained roughly 3 million viewers per night. The leaving of Carlson has raised many questions. But the most important one was, “Why did Fox News do that when Tucker Carlson Tonight was such a big hit?” If we look carefully into details, it can come from three possibilities. One is because of the Dominion lawsuit, which the settlement came last week with over $700 million to pay out from Fox News. The lawsuit concerned Fox News hosts’ false claim about the Dominion voting system. Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Jeanine Pirro, and Tucker Carlson. They all went on their shows and continued to spread out the wrong information around the election with their untrusted guests to keep the rating for Fox News. There might be a chance that all hosts will face their own libel for what they said. There are more to come to Fox News. The storm is not yet ended. Two, for a long time, Carlson was famous for his conservative voice on his show despite the controversies. You can watch it here from the Lincoln Project. But the most controversial one, in my opinion, must be when he said the January 6th riot was actually a peaceful protest inside the Capitol Hill. Woah, that was the most stupid one that I had ever heard on his show. What he said met many criticism and backlash from both the Democrats and the Republicans. Everyone had seen everything live on TV. HBO even had a documentary about that tragic event. And yet, Carlson claimed the January 6th was a peaceful protest, and being exaggerate by the news media. He messed up really badly. Three is his sexist treatment, which one of his staff claimed. Whatever happened between Fox News and Carlson, it is sure that they have prepared to depart him for a long time.

Another event happened today was the termination of Don Lemon, as Fox News called “Lemon Drop” and “Sour Lemon.” CNN Communication announced this morning on Twitter that CNN and Lemon have parted ways, which was the same as Carlson, and he will “forever be a part of the CNN family.” It caught everyone by surprise, like Carlson. But unlike Carlson, who kept quiet after the announcement, Lemon tweeted in response to show his disappointment that CNN didn’t tell him directly. CNN Communication fired back by saying they did give Lemon the chance to meet the management, but he released a statement instead. Well, who is right here? We don’t know. Lemon’s termination came after his comment about Nikki Haley, the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, about the “prime” age and other women. What he meant was that women passed the “prime” age cannot lead. That was hurt and disrespectful from Lemon. He definitely went sour. Look at Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the United Kingdoms for more than 70 years until her death. She passed the prime age too. There is a smell of sexism here, the same as Carlson.

Lemon and Carlson’s termination came on Monday, in the same morning. They had the spotlight of themselves. We don’t know what they will do in the future but one thing for sure that they lost their primetime.
