One of the blockbuster movies that you need to watch this summer. Barbie. Don’t think that this movie is only for girls or gays. Everyone can watch it (except children under 13). I laughed from the beginning till the end. It is hilarious, weird, musically, and has no political purpose. Thanks God!

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the director of Lady Bird, the story is about Barbie (the original Barbie) who lives in Barbieland with other Barbie girls who are better than her. They are Presidents, novelists, Nobel Prize winners, scientists, doctors, Supreme Court justices, and many more. They live in a dream world that every girl in the real world wants to play with. In Barbieland, every Barbie does not need to do anything. They dance, sing, and party everyday. Also, in Barbieland, there is Ken, a male doll. But they only as a supporting character. Barbie takes control in this world. Meanwhile, Ken is just Ken. One day, Barbie realizes that she is not herself anymore, a bad thing that never happens to a Barbie. And just like that, Barbie and Ken journey to the real world.

Barbie discovers that in the real world nowadays, children don’t want to play with Barbie anymore and blame her for destroying their childhood life. The purpose of Barbie in this world is to inspire every little girl that she can achieve and be anyone in this life and that women can rule. She has proved that she is not only a plastic doll that girls can play with. She is beyond that. She broke the stereotype of girls in society to show that girls are better. Barbie is a music and dance party with many incredible and catchy songs. When I watch the movie, I feel like I want to stand up and dance with the music. The choreography is absolutely marvelous. Every actor must have learned how to dance carefully. The costume of the movie is also an interesting highlight. The outfits of Barbie and Ken are from the actual toys. The design goes closely to every detail of their outfits. But the most important thing is the production design. Oh my God, Barbieland is fantastic, as if it is real. Pink is everywhere. The use of pink color has created a shortage of pink paint.

Talking about the plot of this movie, it is simple to understand. It focuses on the journey of Barbie to look for her true identity. She is the original Barbie of other Barbies. She doesn’t have any special talents like others or special like others. She is just…she. But she is more than that. When she plays with the original Barbie, a child can change Barbie into anyone she wants, put on any cute and fashionable outfit to party, and create an identity for her. Barbie is not toxic. She is the best thing ever appearing in every little girl’s childhood. When looking at Barbie, they can see themselves in her and say. “I want to be like her.” Barbie doesn’t change. She will always stay the same. She is always there for them and waits for other girls to play with them. Life is changing as well as people. Children nowadays only want to play with their tablets or use social media. They never want to play with dolls that had made the childhood of many young girls back in the day. The script is funny, and the jokes are hilarious. Parallel with that, the performances of Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken are beyond excellent. They bring the souls of this character. I can guarantee you that Barbie is one of the best movies of 2023.

There is no doubt that Barbie beat Oppenheimer of Christopher Nolan only three days after the early premiere with $22 million, and $155 million in the opening weekend. It is easy to understand because this is a comedy movie that makes the audience feel relaxed and satisfied to watch. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer is about a nuclear bomb and is hard in mind while watching. But I will not make a judgment here. I will also watch Oppenheimer soon. Again, you need to watch Barbie get a laugh before getting back to school next month, and I am sure that you will enjoy it. Highly recommendation!
