What a year! It is the first thing comes up to my mind when the end of 2022 is about to come. There were so many events from good to bad. But 2022 is the year that shaped the world again in a different way. It was a year that we looked at as the beginning of all new troubles, of a new world after COVID, and of a new hope to come. Like a tradition, I usually sit down and write what events are the most important in a year. I must say 2022 is a year of unexpected events. Now let sit down with me and reflect what the hell happened in 2022.

20. Argentina Won the World Cup.

World Cup 2022 is held in Qatar and this is the best World Cup season ever. It is interesting because we can never know what happen. The teams we thought could beat other teams lost. And teams we had least expectation headed to further rounds. The final was the most intense match ever between Argentina and France. In the minute 79, France scored a goal and then, they scored another goal in the next few minutes. In the extra time, Argentina and France chased each other in scoring. But the fate had settled in the penalty round and Argentina won. The emotion was broken. For the first time in 32 years, Argentina was the World Cup champion. It was more meaningful when that was Lionel Messi's final World Cup. So it was worthy after all. Messi and Argentina deserved that winning because they fought so hard as a team and they made it. Well done, Argentina!!!

19. Elizabeth Holmes' Sentence.

The former founder of Theranos, the fake company promised to provide a new technology in blood testing, Elizabeth Holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for frauding. She deserved it after all. Holmes was a dropout student and established her own company with a hope that blood testing would be easier. Her idea caught the attentions of many investors and they poured money in. Of course, it was promising and it must be worked. But unfortunately, it wasn't. Theranos' blood testing machine, Edison, worked in the most "miraculous" way. Only a drop of blood could help the patients know exactly how they were. In fact, it failed. The blood testing results were actually wrong and for some reason, they used other blood testing results. Theranos was exposed when an investigative journalist from The Wall Street Journal, John Carreyrou, wrote about what really happened in 2015 as well as the former employees stood up against Holmes and Theranos. From that moment, the downfall of Elizabeth Holmes had come and now, she had to pay her price.

18. FTX Exposed.

Like Elizabeth Holmes, Sam Bankman-Fried was a promising entrepreneur with his cryptocurrency empire FTX and suffered the same ending like Holmes. Bankman-Fried put on a big scam using his FTX for frauding. On November 11th, FTX filed for bankruptcy and Bankman-Fried stepped down as the CEO of FTX. The scandal had shaken up the investors of cryptocurrency trading, who are very angry right now and want their money back. Of course, when people invested in crypto, the high chance of risk is very high because the money is not real. I'd rather to buy some stocks from real companies and get the real money. Now, Bankman-Fried is facing with his consequences. He lured the money of investors from his trading platform to a fund called Alameda Research, which is like a piggy bank for him to enjoy his rich life.

17. The Midterm Election.

The result of 2022 Midterm Election didn't surprise anyone actually. It was an election that people could predict who would win. Republicans now control the House and Democrats control the Senate. So they're equal. But the most memorable thing about this Midterm Election was that American finally had their own choices. I said that because this election was between 2020 Election deniers and the Democrats. Indeed, somewhere in the government, there are still many politicians believe Trump won the 2020 Election and they used that to get the votes from Trump supporters. But they were wrong. The January 6th had woken up everyone. What the Americans need is a real leader who can represent them, protect them, and lead them. If only using the factor of 2020 Election to gaslight everyone else, it'll be BS. By the way, the red wave did not happen after all.

16. Gaslight is the word of 2022.

Recently, Merriam Webster dictionary has chose the word “gaslighting” be the word of 2022. It is no surprise when that word is chosen because of what happened around the world in 2022 with many turns of events. The word “gaslighting”, according to Merriam Webster, means a type of psychological manipulation from a person to another person to abuse and undue influence on others through mental distortion and psychological or emotional abuse with the aim of obtaining power, control, interests or privileges from the victim. The term Gaslighting originates from the play of the same name, Gaslight, in 1938 and made into a movie in 1944 starring Ingrid Bergman. In both versions, the perpetrator denies the victim's memories, making the victim suspect their awareness and level of self-awareness. Victims will be convinced that what they see, hear, say, and feel is just a product of their imagination. Once they fall into the manipulator's trap, they begin to doubt their own reality and suffer severe mental health damage. Gaslighting occurs frequently in love relationships with the prime example being infidelity. When the victim senses that something is wrong in the relationship and speaks frankly, the manipulator not only refuses to admit it, but also denies it to the end, making the victim believe that the accusations are just an illusion. The manipulator's goal is to avoid his or her misbehavior. The adulterer manipulates, systematically lies, and keeps it a secret to stay undetected. Even when discovered, these guys continue to pile on more lies to convince their victims that they are the problem.

15. January 6th Hearing is about to end.

What else can I say? The justice will be served. What happened on January 6th was a big slap to American Democracy. A bunch of brainless people stormed inside the Capitol Hill and wanted to stop the winning of Joe Biden. They considered themselves patriots but in fact, they were nothing than criminals. They destroyed the legacies made inside the Capitol Hill, they created a big chaos, and they were a disgrace. After so many hearings and hours of investigating, the January 6th committee will bring the truth to the light and the person who needs to hold accountability for the insurrection will be Donald Trump. Anyone who got involved in that day directly or indirectly need to be charged. No one could stay from the light of justice.

14. The Passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

On September 8th, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. She died peacefully. This is a great loss to the British and the Commonwealth of Nations. Queen Elizabeth came to the throne at the age of 25 after her father, King George VI passed away. All the duties and responsibilities were put on the shoulders of the young queen. According to BBC, Queen Elizabeth II's tenure as head of state spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War, and the UK's entry into - and withdrawal from - the European Union. Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting from Winston Churchill to Ms. Truss, who is currently the Prime Minister of the UK after Boris Johnson, and 14 U.S presidents, in which she met 13 presidents, from Truman to Biden. The people of UK mourned the death of their Queen. She will be missed and may King Charles III will continue his mother's legacy and lead the monarchy in a better way.

13. Liz Truss resigned. Rishi Sunak is in charge.

Continue with the event in the U.K, Liz Truss was elected the Prime Minister. She was not widely popular. She had her own slogan "In Liz, we Truss." But then, Truss was not trusted by people after all. She failed to recover the economy of the U.K and other policies (I used to write a blog post about her before.) Truss became the shortest-term Prime Minister of the U.K., which she only served for 31 days. It marked within a year that the U.K changed 3 Prime Ministers. But at least, Truss left a "good" thing for people after all. The internet users used her famous lines "I am a fighter, not a quitter.... I'm resigning" for their reels or TikTok videos. It indicates that at first we are very enthusiastic with what we are about to do. But then, we quit after finding it is too damn hard. Truss must have felt the same. Rishi Sunak was Truss' successor. For the first time, the U.K has the first British Asian and Hindu Prime Minister. Sunak has been the Member of Parliament for Richmond since 2015 and held two positions under Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Before he became the Prime Minister, he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. Now, Sunak has to deal with economy of the U.K as well as other problems. The Britishes can have a high hope with the leadership of Sunak.

12. Ye West's Cancellation.

I must include this event to my list because I want to remind you Ye West is a bad influence and needs to be cancelled after what he did in 2022. From wearing his "white lives matter" t-shirt at the Paris Fashion Week to his love to Nazi. His actions caused a serious of consequences by spreading hates. Many famous brands ended contract with him, people hate him, his fans turn their back, and Ye lost a lot of money. It is not a good year for Ye. Maybe he was too ashamed that he covered his face. But I don't think he feels ashamed or regret at all because his mouth never stops. I wrote an opinion piece to express my anger. He has bipolar disorder. But if he uses that card to explain his actions, he should shut up. It will hurt many people who suffer from the same disease. Seriously, I never like this guy. He should be cancelled. In order to do it, we should stop talking about him, media should stop delivering news of him, and every record label or brand should never work with him again. And even more crucial if they can ban him from every place. Ye West deserves it after all.

11. Taylor Swift's Midnight.

If Ye West has a bad year, Taylor Swift only sits on her throne and enjoys her victory. Indeed, Midnight is the most streaming album in the career of Taylor Swift. All the songs in this album are amazing and her fans cannot get enough of. The return of Taylor Swift is one of the most participated event of 2022. They even had parties to celebrate the album. Definitely, this is the age of Taylor Swift. Her fame and her influence will never go away. By the way, the song Karma in "Midnight" definitely is for Ye West.
